Specialised Intimacy Coordinators cover the scope of standard Intimacy Coordination while also focusing on additional areas where intimacy or hyper-exposure is present. Many Specialised Intimacy Coordinators specialise in medical scenes or queer intimacy. Some Specialised Intimacy Coordinators specialise in violent scenes, or other areas where non-standard intimacy is involved. It is important to remember that an Intimacy Coordinator is not a Stunt Coordinator and cannot be used interchangeably with a Stunt Coordinator for violent scenes. My Intimacy Coordination practice includes standard Intimacy Coordination with a special focus in queer cinema, the horror genre, and violent scenes.
As a queer artist I have extensive experience with queer culture, queer history, and queer intimacy. I am a femme horror filmmaker who has consulted and facilitated Intimacy Coordination for numerous horror projects, as well and directing and producing several horror films of my own. I know how important it is to have an experienced and knowledgeable crew member to support and advocate for actors during violent scenes, particularly where violence against women, femmes, disabled, queer or trans folks is present.
Along with my film degrees, I have an educational background in psychology, criminology, speech, and language which provides a solid foundation for my scope of practice. I have also crewed as a 1st AD over the last seven years which has provided me with invaluable set safety skills and protocols that translate very well to Intimacy Coordination. My previous work in disability services, specifically in Behavioural Management, also adds to my toolkit as a well-rounded and focused Specialised Intimacy Coordinator.
